How would you describe a disruptive innovation? I am not satisfied with Christensen's explanation or Dogbert's way of pursuing :) ,so, I am looking for new explanations.
I admire the work of Joseph Schumpeter and his ideas about the 'creative destruction'. According to Schumpeter: 'creative destruction causes continuous progress and improves the standards of living for everyone'. Well, isn't that a bit too optimistic?
How do you recognise this kind of disruption? Would the following quotations help?
"All truth passes through three stages. First, it is ridiculed. Second, it is violently opposed.
Third, it is accepted as being self-evident."
- Arthur Schopenhauer, German philosopher (1788-1860)
"Don't worry about people stealing your ideas. If your ideas are any good, you'll have to ram them down people's throats".
- Howard Aiken, US computer scientist (1900-1973)
"Discovery consists of seeing what everybody has seen and thinking what nobody has thought."
- Albert Szent-Gyorgyi, biochemist (1893 - 1986)
Do you happen to have a quotation to add? (As you can see, I am addicted to quotations ;-) Do you have a good definition for a disruptive innovation?
